On June 26th the police arrested Justin Harris for the murder of his child Cooper. They released a statement that Detectives have obtained both Physical evidence and Testimonial evidence that a serious crime was committed. They mentioned that he went out to visit the car a few hours after leaving his son in it to throw something in it, as seen on surviellance cameras. He simply shut the door and walked back to his job at Home Depot. At 4:15 he went back to his car and simply drove off within seconds. There had also been reports that his work computer had online searches for 'how
long does it take for an animal to die in a hot car'.It later turned out that he did a search on what temperature it would take to kill a small child. There statement also suggested that they had much more evidence that they haven't yet revealed.
Throughout there appearances Geragos and Hostin relentlessly talked about how accidents like this happen all the time and barely even mentioned the online searches. They go on to cite all these statistics about 40 deaths a year and how 25% of all parents with a three year old have admitted to accidentally leaving their child in a hot car. I personally find this difficult to believe. With regard to the searches they say it could have been links, pop-ups, or maybe someone else used his computer. What are the realisitic chances of that happening. Your work buddy happens to do a search on what temperature it takes to kill a small child just prior to you accidentally kill your child by leaving hime in a hot car. Sonny Hostin is so brain dead that she tried to compare this to her own situation saying that she did internet searches about children drowning when she was taking her child to a lot of pool parties. Suggesting that if her child then died in a drowning accident she could be charged with murder. Of course people could do seaches on children drowning in pools for safety reasons. There are no reasons I could think of as to why someone would do a searh to discover what temperature it would take for a child to die in a hot car.
Mark Geragos goes on to suggest that the evidence really isn't that strong but the case won't get thrown out because judges never throw these cases out.
A third guest addressed the issue of why Harris didn't notice the horrible smell in the car either when he visited the car around 1pm or when he first left around 4:15. He seemed to have a lot more sense and expressed that he believed the prosecution had a very strong case. But Geragos and Hostin never addressed that issue.
Today hard evidence was presented at a hearing featuring the testimony of a police detective.
-There was a terrible odor coming from the car according to two police detectives. One arriving one hour after Justin got his son out of the car, and the other arriving an hour after that. Justin Harris said it took him several minutes to realize that his son was in the back seat and he had forgotten to drop him off at Daycare. Some how not noticing the odor.
-According to surviellance cameras the boy was lively and energetic while at Chick Filet.
Harris said he was sleeping in the car when he made the turn and went towards Home Depot instead of the Daycare Center. That was less than a half-mile from Chick Filet.
-Justin Harris always took his son to Daycare. And the turn that he missed, as mentioned, was only less than a half-mile from Chick Filet.
-His wife was overheard speaking to him when she could see that he was under suspicion saying "what's the matter did you say to much"
-Justin was not showing much emotion. The detective said it seemed as though he was trying to make himself hyper-ventalate. When he was being arrested he was upset about having a felony on his record.
-Justin sent naked pictures to six different women while he was at Home Depot and his son was being tortured to death.
-He was overheard on the phone when he told his mother of his son's death. His mother was screaming in anguish and asking why he wasn't showing any emotion.
-He was also doing searches on a website talking about being free of children.
-His wife also did internet searches about children dying in hot cars.
-He was seen putting something in his car in the middle of the day and the detective said looking at the positioning of his head he would have seen his son.
-He was seen on the phone with someone after police arrived at the scene and lied about it.. When police asked him if he was on the phone with someone he said he wasn't. The phone records said he had and the person he spoke to admitted. He was speaking to someone at work and asking aobut his job.
-He took out a $25000 life insurance policy on his son.
-He had financial troubles and his wife was getting on his case.
-His wife also showed no emotion.
